requirements that the client sets for us. Native, hybrid applications – which technology should we choose? Each of them has its strengths and weaknesses. Maybe it’s worth to meet in the middle and get to know the possibilities of React Native?
“Learn once, write anywhere” — all about Real Native
On the market, we meet the two most popular approaches: native and hybrid. Native apps are written for a specific platform. They use the maximum capabilities of a given platform, but they are quite cost-intensive. Maintaining several independent programmers’ teams is an impossible barrier for many companies. The same applies to the client – creating the same application available on many platforms is an additional cost. In practice, the decision to prepare an application for a single platform often takes place or a leading platform is selected, while the other platforms are available with fewer functions.
Today, 99.6% of all smartphones run on either iOS or Android. Companies treat mobile apps not only as a sell opportunity but also as a channel for raising brand awareness. React Native is a combination of two previously mentioned technologies. It allows us to create mobile applications for multiple platforms at the same time. It’s based on React, a library for creating interfaces known to us well from web applications that was developed and open-sourced by Facebook in 2013.
Developers were very optimistic about this solution. Why? Because React Native is lightweight and offers great performance, especially for rapidly changing data, it also gives us the ability to write reusable code. According to data presented by Christopher Chedeau during React Europe 2015, the Ad Manager application created by Facebook uses 87% of the code on both platforms. Sounds interesting? React Native helps web developer turn into a potential mobile developer, and provides a significant improvement over the existing mobile application development process.
